The sex attacker spat at and repeatedly punched a brave pensioner who stepped in to defend a woman being sexually assaulted on a bus.

Now detectives have issued a CCTV image of the suspect who struck on a 295 bus in Fulham, west London, just before Christmas.

He is described as black, aged between 20 and 30, of slim build, around 5ft 10ins, with short black hair. He was wearing a hooded top with distinctive red checked shoulders.

Detectives are also appealing for witnesses to the incident at around 4.40pm on Tuesday December 20th as the bus was on Fulham Palace Road to come forward.

Detective Constable Darren Barlow, of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “The 65-year-old woman was punched several times in the face after she verbally defended a woman who was being sexually assaulted by the suspect.

“The suspect initially became verbally aggressive towards the victim.

“He then spat at her before punching her several times in the face. Other passengers forced the suspect off the bus.

“Paramedics attended and the woman was taken to a west London hospital with cuts and swelling to her lips.”

He added: “We have released a CCTV image of the suspect and ask anyone who recognises him or has any information to contact us.”

DC Barlow said there have been no arrests and inquiries continue.
