The Russian Prime Minister iced out outgoing Obama after he expelled 35 of Putin’s diplomats from the US and closed two compounds used by them on Thursday.
However, Putin announced he would not retaliate tit-for-tat and then congratulated Donald Trump. On Friday, as Russian diplomats exited the US, the Kremlin released a statement which said Putin will send a New Year message Trump.
The note says he hopes Russia and the US can “take real steps to restore ties” once Trump takes office.
Putin said he would wait for the actions of President-elect Donald Trump, who will take office on Jan. 20, before deciding on any further steps in relations with the United States.
He said: ”We will not expel anyone.
“While keeping the right for retaliatory measures, we will not descend to the level of ‘kitchen’, irresponsible diplomacy.”
Putin even invited U.S. diplomats and their families to a party in the Kremlin.
