Tomorrow marks the 101st anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of the Somme in northern France in 1916.
We will be marking the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army with a series of posts tomorrow.
These posts will have a bias towards Northern Ireland. We do not want anyone to take a sectarian message from this and we remind all our viewers that thousands of Catholic Irishmen also fought heroically for Britain, reaching their objectives and taking enemy trenches more successfully than any English regiment.
But the way in which the loyalists of Northern Ireland still remember the sacrifice of their forebears, and the way in which they use it as a spur and a resource for maintaining the spirit, identity and organisation of their community today makes them an example and role-model for patriots and traditionalists worldwide. Watch and learn!
