This month way back in 1308, the Grand Master of the Knights Templar was imprisoned with his closest comrades in a dank dungeon in south west France.

After the infamous arrests of the Knights Templar on October 13, 1307, some sixty of the highest of the order’s officials were taken in August, 1308 to Chinon-Choudray. All were imprisoned deep in the donjon of the Coudray Tower, including Grand Master Jacques de Molay. The monk-soldiers engraved a number of carvings, graffiti, into the walls. Today, most of the graffiti is preserved behind thick glass.
