Today in 1940 was Adler Tag – the Day of the Eagle – when Goering’s Luftwaffe launched the mass attack that was supposed to break the RAF and open the way for the Nazi invasion of Great Britain.
It’s probably the case the things were never as close as they appeared. The German pilots, flying near the end of their fuel range, could only stay and fight for a few minutes. The RAF, near their bases, had much longer in the air.
But still, the heroism and the results were truly historic.
